We've recently released two new safety alerts on our website.
Non-compliant RPE on the market
Workers in many industries use P2 disposable respirators, commonly known as ‘dust masks’, to manage the risks around breathing chemicals and dusts like silica and asbestos. This alert highlights the issue of non compliant and unapproved respiratory protective equipment being marketed as compliant. You can view the full alert on our website.
The Health and Safety Association of New Zealand (HASANZ) and the New Zealand Occupational Hygiene Society (NZOHS) recently ran a webinar for businesses and health and safety advisers on how to spot non-compliant RPE. The webinar and accompanying presentation can be found on the HASANZ COVID-19 webpage.
Poorly maintained tripod tanks are a safety risk
This safety alert highlights the serious health and safety risks that poorly maintained tripod tanks pose for fuel users. A fuel tanker driver was seriously injured in a recent incident on a farm in which a tripod overhead tank collapsed while he was filling it. The root cause of the collapse was significant corrosion (rust) on one of the tank legs.
