Health by design
|
|
Designers have an important role in managing health and safety risks.
The health and safety by design process can apply to plant, substances, structures, materials, technology, facilities, equipment, hardware, software and the way workers interact with these.
Anybody working in these areas is required by HSWA to ensure what they design is without risks to health and safety. They are viewed as “upstream PCBUs” and so have responsibilities under the legislation. Check out the information on our website for more info on upstream PCBUS.
For an example of health by design in action, listen to Rog from The Rock talking with a South Island engineering business about the benefits of thinking about health and safety right from the start of the design process.

Online health and well-being policy builder for SMEs
|
|
A new online resource is now available to help small businesses create a health and wellbeing policy relevant to their business quickly and easily. The Workplace Policy Builder on the business.govt.nz website makes it easy for small businesses to tailor policies to the individual circumstances of their workplaces.
The Health and Wellbeing Policy Builder can help a business create a healthy, safe and positive working environment for staff. It was developed by MBIE in association with the Health Promotion Agency, and adds to the existing policies in the Workplace Policy Builder. These include policies for flexible work practices, IT and social media and annual leave and holidays.
The Workplace Policy Builder is part of a suite of free online tools from business.govt.nz that help make running a small business easier for business owners and managers.
Check out the media release from the Beehive for more information.
