Kia ora Natalie,

The heart of Tāmaki Makaurau is being transformed and, as part of that, construction of CRL’s Te Waihorotiu Station continues at pace.

We are in touch to let you know about some important traffic changes that may affect you over the next few months. These changes will enable us to move to new work areas as we continue to upgrade surrounding roads and footpaths.

Traffic changes in December 2023

The first phase of these changes, which have been closely coordinated with Auckland Council’s Te Hā Noa project on Victoria Street, will begin during the week commencing Monday 11 December.
Traffic changes effective week commencing 11 December 2023
•    Victoria Street West will reopen to limited traffic. Initially, vehicles will be able to travel eastbound on Victoria Street (from Federal St) and make a right turn into Albert Street and the lower service lane.  Soon after, Victoria Street West will open to bidirectional east-west traffic, reflecting the new layout of Te Hā Noa.

•    Large areas of Victoria Street West footpaths are now upgraded and complete, and construction fences will be removed where possible. Pedestrian access through the area will be maintained – please continue to support local.

•    The new bidirectional cycleway running alongside the station’s Victoria Street entrances will not be open at this stage.

•    The slip lane near Durham Street West will reopen to southbound traffic from the Wyndham / Albert Street intersection.

•    Loading zones continue to be available throughout the midtown area (see locations).

Traffic changes in the new year

In 2024, CRL streetscape upgrades will continue alongside other midtown regeneration projects including Auckland Transport’s Wellesley Street Bus Improvements and Watercare’s Midtown Wastewater Upgrade.

Following the reopening of Victoria Street West to traffic, in early Januaury 2024 works will begin on Wellesely Street West.
Traffic changes effective week commencing 8 January 2024
•    Access to Atrium Carpark, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Huawei Centre and other Albert Street properties in this area will be via Victoria Street West into Albert Street (no access from Wellesley St).

•    Albert Street, between Victoria Street and Wellesley Street, becomes southbound only.

•    Traffic access to the service lane below the Crowne Plaza Hotel property will be available from Wellesley Street only.

•    All carpark buildings remain open and accessible, however the Wilson Parking Elliott Street carpark will only be accessible from Elliott Street (the service lane entrance will be temporarily closed).

•    Wellesley Street West, at the intersection with Albert Street, will reduce to one lane of traffic in each direction.

•    Some bus stops on Wellesley Street West will be relocated during 2024, beginning with stop 7232 (Stop C, The Civic) from Sunday 7 January 2024.

•    * A new southbound connection from Albert Street to Victoria Street will be provided (indicated by the blue arrow) by the beginning of February.
