Today marks the one-year anniversary of Cyclone Gabrielle, the unparalleled weather event that left a trail of destruction across the North Island. Just two weeks after the devastating Auckland Anniversary Floods, Cyclone Gabrielle struck, wreaking havoc on our communities and creating uncertainty which many are still facing. At Vero we received almost 9,000 claims and remain committed to supporting all those impacted by this extraordinary event. We’re immensely proud of the hard mahi our teams and partners have put in over the past 12 months to be there for our customers but there is still important work to be done to help protect Kiwis from the devasting effects of any future extreme weather events. We’re playing our part in supporting decision-makers as they explore ways to decrease risk around flooding.

It's been a year since the devasting 2023 Auckland Anniversary floods, a historic event that challenged the community's strength and resilience. When the floods hit, it left behind a wake of destruction. At Vero we received close to 10,000 claims from this single event, with many of our valued customers facing the harsh reality of needing to relocate, rebuild and repair their homes. The devastation was immeasurable, and our hearts went out to all those who were impacted. For Vero, our core focus has been on helping individuals rebuild their lives and restore a sense of normalcy by getting as many people as possible back into their homes. The journey has not been without its challenges. It has been one of the largest insurance events in New Zealand’s history. Even now, 12 months later, the effort continues. We acknowledge the strength and resilience of the individuals and families impacted. While the recovery is still very much in progress, we remain steadfast in our commitment to all those affected.

Receiving a cancer diagnosis is devastating for individuals, and their friends and whānau. The work of Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand cancer and Cancer Research Trust NZ is essential for supporting people with their diagnosis and helping research new and effective treatments. Ultimately, we dream of a future free of cancer, and these charities give us a pathway for this vision. We’re over the moon that #SpirittoCure has raised $354,000 in 2023, helping us get closer to this vision! Dr Michelle Sullivan, General Manager of Cancer Research Trust says “We’re so grateful to everyone who participated in and donated to the event. Thank you for helping to create a brighter future for cancer patients. With Suncorp’s incredible donation we’re funding New Zealand’s best minds in cancer research to discover new ways to detect and treat a range of cancers, including melanoma, ovarian cancer, liver cancer, acute myeloid leukaemia and endometrial cancer." Ki te kotahi te kākaho, ka whati; Ki te kāpuia, e kore e whati. When we stand alone, we are vulnerable; but together, we are unbreakable. See you next year! #curingcancerchanginglives #spirittocure #spirittocure2023

Vero Insurance New Zealand reposted this
10 months on from the devastating weather events, it’s time to stop talking ‘recovery’ and start talking ‘prevention’. I shared our ‘home by Christmas’ ambition with BusinessDesk NZ. It might be an unobtainable goal, but it’s driving us to get the best outcome for our customers. https://lnkd.in/gz6zHvqC

Eden Park has hosted many worthy champions in its time, and the super stars raising funds for #SpirittoCure were right up there! Vero employees, as part of Suncorp, joined with their partners and supporters and made their way around the stadium. Climbing up and down 5000 stairs, they stepped their way to help two worthy cancer charities, Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand and Cancer Research Trust NZ – and had a great time in the process! Ka pai to all those who took part, and everyone who supported them. #curingcancerchanginglives #spirittocure #spirittocure2023

What a day! Hundreds of participants ran (mostly!) up and down the stairs of Eden Park, raising money for #SpirittoCure. Dressed to impress, the day was filled with colour, costumes and a sense of community. A big shout out goes to the volunteers who generously gave their time to making all three Spirit to Cure events such a success. Through the generous contributions of our sponsors and the fundraising efforts of our participants, we’ve raised over $348,000 for our partner charities, Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand and Cancer Research Trust NZ. This has far exceeded our expectations, and we are humbled by the generosity of everyone who participated and donated. We’d also like to thank our passionate team of sponsors, whose generous donations to Spirit to Cure have helped us exceed our goal. Thank you to Morgan Project Services (NZ) Ltd, Parthenon Construction, ACM Removals Ltd, Aerem, ARC Projects, Automation Associates Limited, DWELLSTONE Construction and Property Maintenance, EDC - Engineering Design Consultants Ltd, Gallagher Bassett - Australia and New Zealand, Matassa Property Services, Prier & Alexander, SHARE_, Teladoc Health, Vero Liability Insurance Limited and WNS Global Services for getting involved and supporting #Spirittocure2023. #curingcancerchanginglives #spirittocure #spirittocure2023

Today is the day! Good luck to the Vero and Suncorp employees, partners and supporters who will be taking to the stands of Eden Park today to raise money for Spirit to Cure. They have 5000 stairs ahead of them, as they step out with a Spirit to Cure. Their efforts today and the fundraising done prior to the event, will be making a difference to the thousands of Kiwis affected by cancer. So far, over $340,000 has been raised to support the work of Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand and Cancer Research Trust NZ. Thank you to our Diamond sponsor, Morgan Project Services (NZ) Ltd, and our Platinum sponsor, Parthenon Construction, along with the many other organisations who have contributed to #SpirittoCure, helping make a difference today and for our future.
