The future of Massey-Westgate’s community facilities – what would you like to see?
The Auckland Plan provides for the development or consolidation of metropolitan centres to serve large populations across the Auckland Region. As one of these major centres, Westgate will require substantial community and recreational facilities, to serve a community that will grow to at least 100,000 by 2031
The Council has identified the need to provide a new community facility to be known as the Westgate Community Centre, which will be located in a new town park to the north of the Westgate town centre. The Westgate Community Centre is a major multi million dollar capital construction with an expectation that it will meet the needs of the wider metropolitan community of North West Auckland over for the next 30 years.
In addition and as part of the proposed Westgate Town Centre development, a new library and town square will be constructed by Council to replace the existing Massey Library and Citizens Advice Bureau located alongside the existing Massey Leisure Centre. The current Massey Library will be vacated once the new Library is constructed. This will result in a vacant building of 855 square metres, which will become available for community use.
Further, a new Westgate Town Park will be created to the north of the new community centre. The Council is also interested to know what type of activities and facilities you would like to see in this park.
The Henderson-Massey Local Board is responsible for deciding how the new Westgate Community Centre and Town Park will be designed and used, and how the new community space that is currently the Massey Library will be used. The local board wants to ensure that the design, facilities and activities provided at these community facilities meet community needs – both now and into the future. To do that, the local board needs to understand the community’s ideas, perspectives and vision for these two community spaces.
By filling in this form you will be helping your local board decide how best to design these facilities and what type of activities they should provide. We really appreciate your input.
