Auckland's New Food Grading System
Current Engagement
Takoyaki Night Market

New food laws are coming into place in March 2016, known as the Food Act. The Act does not include a grading system but we currently have one in Auckland. This system is popular with food business operators and the public, who can easily understand if the food premises they are going to practices good food safety or not.

Auckland Council has agreed to develop a grading process that is aligned to the new Food Act 2014. This recommendation will be presented to the government to encourage wider adoption across the country.

We need your feedback on what you think of the current system to assist the council in putting this paper together. Go to Shape Auckland to have your say by Sunday 14 June.

Nelson Street Off-Ramp Cycleway Designs

The disused Nelson Street motorway off-ramp will be transformed into a new cycleway and walkway by the end of this year, creating a new landmark for Auckland. The route will from part of the Nelson Street Cycle Route and will connect with and expand Auckland’s rapidly-improving cycle network. This aligns with the shared long-term vision of the NZ Transport Agency, Auckland Transport and Auckland Council to build world-class cycling infrastructure that promotes cycling as a safe and convenient mode of transport.

Your views will help shape the design, along with input from iwi and Cycle Action Auckland, which has championed the project. A design will be finalised later this year and then incorporated into the off-ramp when it is opened.

Visit Shape Auckland to complete our online feedback form by 22 June.

Draft Property Maintenance and Nuisance Bylaw
Current Engagement

Auckland Council inherited two bylaws from the former Auckland City and North Shore City councils. These related to creating a nuisance on private property and covered for example, litter and pollution, contaminated land and refuse landfill and maintenance of premises. Auckland Council has produced a new draft bylaw for the entire Auckland region.

Go to Shape Auckland to have your say by Wednesday 1 July.

Local Alcohol Policy
Closing the Loop

A policy to manage the sale and supply of alcohol in Auckland was adopted by Auckland Council last month. The Regional Strategy and Policy Committee last month endorsed the recommendations of a hearings panel that took in to consideration more than 2600 submissions received on the draft policy last year. The provisional policy can now be notified and those who submitted on the draft have a right of appeal.

Read more about it in the media release.
