Waiuku Estuary restoration work complete

Franklin Local Board chair Angela Fulljames says the board has been a proud supporter of the Waiuku Estuary Restoration Trust, having provided close to $200,000 in grants for this project, and is pleased to see them finally reach their goal, to clear all the mangroves from the estuary.

Labour Weekend is coming... and so is the Franklin Arts Trail

The new Franklin Arts Trail showcases the work of artists all across the Franklin region, from the Awhitu Peninsula through to Clevedon. Artists on the trail include jewellers, potters, woodworkers, sculptors, painters, pounamu carvers, and others working in many other forms.

Hub to enable Beachlands community to embrace sustainable living

The Beachlands Community Trust, in partnership with the Franklin Local Board, is to set up a sustainability hub focused on creative upcycling and educating the public how to live in an environmentally-conscious way.

Freedom Camping bylaw development update

A draft bylaw, under the Freedom Camping Act 2011 will now be presented to the Regulatory Committee in November, after which it will be presented to the Governing Body. If accepted, it will then go out for public consultation, before final adoption next year. Look out for opportunities to have your say in early 2019.

Regional Fuel Tax delivering critical road safety and transport projects

In its first month of operation, the Regional Fuel Tax (RFT) has generated $13.2 million (excluding GST), with the first projects made possible by this revenue already announced.

Projects include delivering rural road safety upgrades in Rodney and Franklin, and six new red light safety cameras at dangerous intersections across Auckland.

Franklin has all you need for summer
caravan-friendly destination

Franklin Ward Councillor and Deputy Mayor Bill Cashmore is encouraging Aucklanders to start preparing for another fabulous summer – and to put Franklin on the checklist of places to visit.

One of the Franklin Local Board’s priorities is to see the area promoted for its tourism opportunities through branding, digital tools and as a motor home-friendly destination.

Cr Cashmore says plenty of work is being done to ensure the region has safer roads, its public facilities are regularly renewed and the infrastructure around beaches is fit for purpose.
