Panel Member Renewal Policy
|
|
We approved our Panel Member Renewal Policy which we use to reappoint members onto the Panel of Examiners’ Register (the Register).
Panel members are appointed for three years and the appointment of inaugural panel members is due to expire.
To be reappointed to the Register, panel members need to:
- advise in writing they wish to be reappointed to the Register
- send an up-dated CV to demonstrate continued involvement in the industry
- complete and send a Fit and Proper Person Form including a Ministry of Justice criminal check.
Panel members will be given three months’ notice to complete the requirements in time before their term expires.
Those panel members whose tenure is due to expire will receive a letter soon with an extension so they can meet the Ministry of Justice check timeframe.

Amendments to Gazette Notice
|
|
The WorkSafe Board approved our proposed amendments to the Gazette Notice.
It is expected the amendment to the Gazette Notice will be published on 1 August setting out the requirements for:
- a certificate of competence as a manager to manage the quarrying operation specified in the certificate
- a first aid certificate
- operational experience.
A guideline setting out requirements will be available at the same time.
Paper applications for a site specific CoC will be available on 1 August. Online applications will be available in the next month.
A new operational experience logbook needs to be used. All applications from 1 August will need to meet the new requirements for ‘workings’ and be accompanied by the new operational experience logbook.

CPD verification
|
|
We are currently conducting our second CPD verification process.
The process allows us to monitor compliance with CPD requirements outlined in the Continuing Professional Development Requirements for Holders of Certificates of Competence Granted Under the Health and Safety in Employment (Mining Operations and Quarrying Operations) Regulations 2016 Gazette Notice.
Each year 5% of CoC holders are randomly selected. This year 69 CoC holders were randomly selected for verification.
We will be looking at the results at our August meeting and will advise of the results.

Continued Professional Development (CPD)
|
|
The Health and Safety at Work (Mining Operations and Quarrying Operations) Regulations 2016 require all CoC holders to comply with CPD requirements if they want to renew their CoC. All CoC holders who want to renew their CoC must have completed the CPD requirements whether or not they are working within the extractives industry throughout the five-year period of a CoC.
CPD must be recorded in a logbook either online or on paper. Along with your logbook you are required to have evidence of your formal learning. You can find out more about recording CPD on the WorkSafe website.
It is a good idea to record activities every time CPD is done. This only takes a few minutes so don't leave it until the last minute!
Remember to keep all evidence of activities in case you are asked to provide evidence when you apply for renewal of your CoC(s). Examples of types of evidence would be course certificates, a seminar/conference programme showing you as a speaker, attendance record at a workshop/seminar, confirmation by your employer of participation in an in-house training course, attendance records, registration forms or confirmation of attendance at a seminar/workshop/conference.

Applications
|
|
We encourage candidates to apply via the online system. Online applications are processed quicker than hard copy applications.
Currently, the majority of applications received are incomplete. It is important applications are accompanied by verification on the correct documents, as incomplete applications will not be processed and therefore delayed.
To help you there is a checklist on the application form. Please use it before you send in your application to ensure your application is complete and can be processed quickly.
