In early June, Precinct Properties will start deconstruction of the Downtown Shopping Centre (DSC) to make way for the construction works of the Commercial Bay development. Fletchers are installing hoardings around the perimeter of the site, to protect pedestrians from the construction works and construction traffic. Access through DSC is now closed, this includes the air bridge between PwC Tower and the DSC. The traffic management plan also requires the adjacent footpaths bordering the site to be closed. These are:
From the intersection of Customs Street and Lower Queen Street to Lower Albert Street.
The east side of Lower Albert Street, opposite the Northern Express bus stop, between Lower Albert and the access to HSBC House Carpark.
The hoardings on Lower Queen Street showcasing the City Rail Link and new public spaces generated strong interest from pedestrians. These have now been replaced by Commercial Bay hoardings at the end of May, which are up until Commercial Bay opens in 2018.
Most large infrastructure projects are digitally recorded for future generations, and the CRL is no exception. We have engaged a company to produce time-lapse photography of the construction and will later produce a series of videos. Keep an eye on our Facebook page to see the City Rail Link journey recorded.
We have changed the traffic crossing to a Barnes Dance at the Customs and Albert Street intersection. This allows pedestrians to cross diagonally, creating safer pedestrian movement and more efficient crossing times, which also improves traffic flows.
The CRL pipe jack hoardings now have large panels stating “Victoria Street businesses open as usual”. These are on both ends of the hoardings facing into Albert Street, with more to go up on the traffic-facing sides of the hoardings on the Mai Thai and on the Bungee Jump sides.
