Sea Change - Thanks for your interest in Sea Change
A big thank you to those who attended one of the forums we recently ran to help develop a Stakeholder Working Group (SWG) for the Hauraki Gulf “Sea Change” project.
More than 160 people from stakeholder groups attended in Auckland and Thames, and everyone’s active participation bodes well for the future success of this project.
A varied mix of people and groups – from industry bodies to conservationists – sat together to begin talking about the gulf’s future.
The Sea Change plan, to be delivered in 2015, will identify solutions to issues in the 1.2 million hectare Hauraki Gulf Marine Park area.
The SWG will be responsible for creating a vision and management objectives for the gulf through collaboration with all interest groups and users of the gulf. In November, approximately 60 delegated people will meet again to fine tune the numbers that will sit on the group.
We’ll keep everyone informed as Sea Change develops. Ongoing regular opportunities to participate are planned – stay tuned.
Sea Change is being led by a partnership between mana whenua and statutory agencies Auckland Council, Waikato Regional Council, the Hauraki Gulf Forum, Department of Conservation and Ministry for Primary Industries.
•  Our website seachange.org.nz has updated facts about the project, and is where your friends and group members can also register for ongoing information.
