Welcome to the August Stakeholder update!
It has been a busy time at council and this newsletter includes information about how you can shape your community including an open day at Waikumete Cemetery, areas plans for Otara-Papatoetoe and Devonport-Takapuna and upcoming consultation on some new bylaws including trading in public places.
There are important decisions to be made about the future of Waikumete Cemetery. The draft Waikumete Cemetery Reserve Management Plan focuses on key issues facing the cemetery:
a proposed new main entrance
proposed burial plot development
active management of developed and natural areas of vegetation.
Have we got it right? Read the plan and make your submission by 4pm, Tuesday 16 September 2014.

The draft Devonport-Takapuna Area Plan is now available for feedback until 6 August 2014.
The area plan will outline how the Devonport-Takapuna area could be transformed over the next 30 years. It will help implement the Auckland Plan at a local level and set out our vision for the future, including key actions to achieve it. Read more

Engagement on the Ōtara-Papatoetoe draft Area Plan is currently taking place. The plan will outline how the area could be transformed over the next 30 years. Feedback is open until Sunday 17 August 2014. Read more
Have your say on new bus shelter designs
It would be worth a quick bus ride to Symonds Street to check out new prototype bus shelters that have been installed as part of a trial being run by Auckland Transport.
Formal consultation gets underway from 7 July to 22 August during which Auckland Transport is seeking feedback on three bus shelter designs. This is a great opportunity to have a say in the type of bus shelter design or designs that will ultimately be rolled out across Auckland’s bus network.
Auckland's 21 local boards have developed their draft local board plans for 2014-2017, which will set objectives for our local communities for the next three years and beyond.
You can have your say on the draft plans by making a formal submission by Wednesday 6 August 2014. Read more
What do you think of the temporary Pocket Park on Quay Street? Have your say by 31 October and contribute to the longer-term transformation of Quay Street Boulevard. More information
Auckland Council adopted the Navigation Safety Bylaw on 31 July. This bylaw was developed with significant community input which helped to shape the final outcome, including decisions around the wearing of lifejackets on vessels of six metres or less. The bylaw will replace the current Auckland Regional Council Navigation Safety Bylaw 2008 and will come into effect over the Labour weekend. Read more
Community Grants Policy - we are developing a new Community Grants Policy that will guide the allocation of funding to groups and organisations driving projects, activities and services that benefit Aucklanders. Feedback is open until 5pm Monday 11 August. Read more
Heritage Incentives Policy project - we are currently developing an Auckland-wide Heritage Incentives Policy to encourage residents to actively engage in the protection, enhancement and rehabilitation of Auckland’s natural and historic heritage. Feedback closes Friday 22 August 2014. Read more
