Long-Term Plan 2015-2025

Auckland Mayor Len Brown has presented his proposal for Auckland’s next ten-year budget - the Long-term Plan (LTP) 2015-2025.  The Mayor’s proposal sets out priorities for investment over the next decade to support Auckland’s development, while keeping rates and debt at affordable levels.

This begins the conversation with Aucklanders over the next 6 months … There will be several opportunities to get involved and a draft plan will be adopted towards the end of the year and consulted on in early 2015.

Youth Video Challenge

The Youth Advisory Panel has picked the five finalists our youth video challenge.  We challenged young Aucklanders – those 25 years old and under - to make a video of one minute’s duration answering the question: ‘What should Auckland spend money on to become the world's most liveable city?’  Topics important to young people included public transport, housing, the environment and social initiatives.

We received some excellent videos now on our YouTube channel.

The clip that receives the most views between now and 5pm Tuesday 30 September will receive a $3000 prize. Check them out and share your favourite.

The five videos will be used through the coming months to help encourage other Aucklanders to get engaged in discussion and choices around Auckland’s 10 year spending plan, the Long-term Plan 2015-2025, which sets out how much the council will spend: on what, where and when. The Long-term Plan process is underway from now until June 2015.

Draft Community Facilities Network Plan

Auckland Council has developed a draft Community Facilities Network Plan to guide council’s provision of community facilities for the next 10 years and beyond. Consultation closes on 15 September.  The plan covers community centres, venues for hire (previously known as community or rural halls), arts and culture facilities, and aquatic and leisure facilities.  The network plan has been developed to guide council’s provision and investment in community facilities to meet these challenges.

CCTV in public places

Ensuring Aucklanders and visitors feel safe is just one of the many things that will contribute to making Auckland the world’s most liveable city.

For some that means being comforted by the presence of CCTV cameras in our public places.

Auckland Council is partnering with the police, its council-controlled organisations and the NZ Security Association in an effort to develop consistent quality and standard CCTV systems in public places.

There are already draft guidelines to assist when considering installing a system in a public place and a strategic action plan is being developed that will look at what role CCTV may have now and over the next 30 years.  The draft plan is expected to be available for public feedback in October.
